East African Wind Farm
SDG Impact
About This Project
The East African Wind Farm is a pioneering renewable energy project located in Turkana County, Kenya.
With a capacity of 310 MW generated by 365 wind turbines, it's one of the largest wind power installations
in Africa.
The project delivers clean electricity to over 100,000 households, displacing fossil fuel-based power
generation and significantly reducing Kenya's carbon emissions. Located in a remote region with excellent
wind resources, the project has transformed the local economy through job creation and infrastructure
development.
Beyond carbon reduction, the project contributes to Kenya's energy independence and reduces electricity
costs nationwide. Community programs include education initiatives, healthcare improvements, and
water access projects for nearby settlements.
Project Benefits
- 310 MW of clean energy capacity added to national grid
- Over 600 local jobs created during construction and operation
